A day long masterclass exploring different ways of creating pattern on fabric. Using the painted/printed fabric you’ve created you’ll have the choice of making up a drum lampshade or a square wall panel.  All materials supplied of course.

Location:  The Signal Tower Museum, Arbroath  (TBC).

Date:  Saturday 13th May  10.30 – 4.30pm  (TBC)

This workshop marks the start of Angus Creatives’ Festival of Makers, which this year has moved forward to May.  There are lots of other workshops by various members in different locations throughout the week;  also, my own studio will be open to visitors on the May 20-21st weekend.

Description

Exploring different ways of painting and creating patterns on fabric.

We’ll practise various techniques for painting on fabric– mark-making, freehand painting, stencils, potato prints, tapes – as well as considering pattern placement and colour.

In the last part of this workshop, you will be able to use some of your fabric to create your own unique lampshade or alternatively, a square wall panel.

Participants of all abilities are welcome (over 16’s only), and all materials are provided.   If you want, you can bring along any reference materials (magazine cuttings, old greetings cards, photos) or favourite fabrics can be helpful too.  Also, bring an apron or wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting marked (just in case!).  We’ll have a short break for lunch and it would be a good idea to bring a packed lunch with you.
